A downloadable zine

Buy Now$5.00 USD or more

Here is a collection of games I have played while growing up with the Dungeons and Dragons rulebooks, which would not usually be called Dungeons and Dragons. When the rulebooks could not do what I wanted for me, or when I couldn't do what the rulebook wanted from me, I wrote games that could. Here are some of the first lyric games I ever wrote, many years before I properly knew a lyric game was something you could write.

This zine contains:

  • One essay about my history with the D&D rulebooks
  • Six games you can play with your RPG rulebook of choice
  • Rulebook art by yours truly, and by the wondrous Loren Sherman

What is a lyric game?

Oh man, that's honestly like, the million dollar question. Nobody really knows! But I'm basically using the term to mean a game that's written more poetically, and more about a concept, or how the rules set makes you feel than a game that's really intended to be played. I don't have super sophisticated thoughts on this, but I really like the way that Jay Dragon writes about it in Ritual Almanac: https://archived-pcg.itch.io/ritual-almanac-1

Thanks!

How did you break into my childhood and steal these thoughts out of my past?

It does my heart such good that people are finding this relatable <3
